Construction Listings
The National Gutter Authority maintains a structured directory of gutter installation, repair, and maintenance contractors operating across the United States. Listings are drawn from the construction vertical, specifically firms whose primary or significant service scope includes residential and commercial gutter systems. The Gutter Directory Purpose and Scope page describes the criteria that define inclusion eligibility and how the directory boundaries are established within the broader construction sector.
Geographic distribution
Listings are organized by state and metropolitan service area, reflecting the localized licensing requirements that govern exterior construction trades in the United States. Gutter contractors operate under contractor licensing frameworks administered at the state level — 46 states maintain some form of contractor licensing or registration requirement, though the specific classification for gutter work (whether classified under general contracting, specialty trades, or roofing-adjacent work) varies by jurisdiction.
States with high residential construction volume — including California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina — generate the densest listing concentrations. Rural and low-density regions may have fewer indexed firms, reflecting both population distribution and the concentration of licensed trade contractors in metropolitan markets. Listings from states where gutter installation falls under the International Residential Code (IRC) Section R903 scope for roof drainage are tagged accordingly, as permit requirements differ from states where gutters are treated as non-permitted accessory installations.
Multi-state operators — firms maintaining licensed entities or subsidiaries across state lines — appear under each jurisdiction where they hold active registration, not solely at the firm's headquarters location.
How to read an entry
Each directory entry presents structured fields drawn from business registration data, contractor licensing databases, and submitted firm profiles. A standard entry includes:
- Business legal name — the registered entity name as it appears in the relevant state contractor licensing or business registration database
- Primary service classification — installation, repair, maintenance, or combined; further subdivided by material type (aluminum, steel, copper, vinyl, or seamless-formed)
- Service geography — listed counties or metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) served, not solely the firm's registered address
- License type and number — the specific license category applicable in the firm's state of operation, with issuing authority identified
- Insurance notation — whether the firm has submitted a current certificate of general liability insurance and, where applicable, workers' compensation coverage
- Specialty designations — firms holding additional credentials such as LeafGuard, MasterShield, or K-Guard authorized installer status, or NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association) member status, are flagged separately from unlisted generalist contractors
Entry fields for insurance and license status reflect submitted documentation and are subject to expiration. The How to Use This Gutter Resource page details how verification timestamps are displayed within entries.
What listings include and exclude
Included:
- Licensed gutter contractors with a primary business address in the United States
- Firms offering seamless gutter fabrication on-site using roll-forming equipment (a distinct operational category from pre-formed section installation)
- Commercial gutter and downspout contractors working under Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA) standards
- Firms offering gutter protection system installation as a primary or secondary service line
Excluded:
- General roofing contractors for whom gutter work represents less than 15% of documented project scope
- Unlicensed handyman services, regardless of gutter service advertising
- Firms with active license suspensions, revocations, or unresolved disciplinary proceedings at the time of listing review
- Product manufacturers and distributors without a direct installation service arm
The directory does not include individual subcontractors operating solely under a general contractor's license umbrella unless that individual holds an independent specialty license. This distinction matters under state codes — California's CSLB, for example, classifies gutter work under C-43 (Sheet Metal) or in some configurations under C-39 (Roofing), each representing a distinct licensing track with separate examination and bonding requirements (California Contractors State License Board, cslb.ca.gov).
Verification status
Listings carry one of three verification designations that indicate the degree to which submitted information has been cross-checked against primary sources:
- Unverified — entry created from public business registration data; license and insurance status not independently confirmed
- Partially verified — license number confirmed against the issuing state agency database; insurance documentation not yet reviewed
- Verified — license active and confirmed, current certificate of insurance on file, and business address cross-referenced against the state contractor registry within the preceding 12-month window
Verification is not a quality endorsement. A verified listing confirms that stated credentials exist and were active at the time of review; it does not assess workmanship, customer satisfaction, or compliance with the International Building Code (IBC) or local amendments thereto.
Permit history and inspection records are not included in directory listings. These records are maintained by local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) offices — typically municipal or county building departments — and are not aggregated in this directory. Researchers requiring permit compliance records should contact the relevant AHJ directly.
Listing data is sourced from state contractor licensing portals, county business registries, and firm-submitted profiles. Discrepancies between submitted information and public registry data result in a listing being flagged for review rather than removed, with the conflict noted in the entry's verification status field. The full scope of active Gutter Listings reflects the directory as indexed across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
